FROM THE CREATION OF ARCHULETA COUNTY UNTIL 1941 THE CLERK OF THE DISTRICT COURT WAS AUTHORIZED TO ACCEPT DECLARATIONS OF INTENTION FOR PURPOSES OF IMMIGRATION AND NATURALIZATIONS.

These immigration and naturalization records were copied from the Clerk of the District Court, Sixth Judicial District's records now held by the San Juan Historical Society. They consist of one book of "Declaration of Intention's" containing 52 declarations, and two other books containing one declaration each, these last two declarations have a photo of the applicant. From the declarations page you have the option of viewing the individual applications. These are scans of legal size documents in .jpg format and take a little time to load.

Certificates of Naturalization Issued In District Court of Archuleta County, copied from three different “Certificate of Naturalization” stub books. All three stub books were in different format, Not all stubs were completely filled out. The actual Certificates of Naturalization were removed from the stubs and presumably given to the applicants when signed. The stubs have the actual signatures of the applicants. These stubs contain some good genealogical information such as place and date of birth, whether married or not and lists any children. Most of these names are not duplications of names in the declarations above.

Next we have a set of 35 immigration index cards (most of the names on these cards are different from the ones on the above declarations and certificate stubs) from District Court, Sixth Judicial District, Archuleta County, Colorado now held by the San Juan Historical Society. What is typed there represents all the information on those cards. These cards give the date Naturalization was approved or if denied, the reason why.
