Yamaguchi, Frank R. Yamaguchi, Haru


(The Pagosa Springs Sun April 21, 1960) Frank R. Yamaguchi, long time resident of this area, and resident of Pagosa Springs since 1937 passed away early Monday morning following a short illness. Mr. Yamaguchi was in the hospital in Durango at the time of his death. He had been taken there a couple of weeks before due to illness. He is survived by his wife, Haru; one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Cotton; four sons, Ralph, Ernest and |George of Pagosa Springs and Fred of Chicago, Ill. three grandchildren also survive him. In addition he left a host of friends to mourn his passing. This quiet hard working man was well known to all of Archuleta county and those who called him friend were legion. In the 27 years in which he resided in Pagosa Springs he became known as an honest man, a good neighbor and one who always pulled his share of the load. Frank R. Yamaguchi was born May 17, 1877 in Nara, Japan and came to the United States at an early age. He was united in marriage to Haru Watambe in Seattle, Wash., in 1913. He came to Ignacio in 1917 and the family lived there until 1926 at which time they moved to Kerns, south of Dyke, and Mr. Yamaguchi was employed in the sawmill there. This was their home until 1937 when they moved to Pagosa Springs. Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church on Wednesday afternoon of this week with interment being in the Hilltop Cemetery. The Ben Lynch Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements and the Rev. McBride gave the services.

(The Pagosa Springs Sun August 28, 1975) Mrs. Haru Yamaguchi. Death claimed Mrs. Haru Yamaguchi, 87, at her home in Pagosa Springs Sunday August 24, She was a long time resident of Archuleta County, having moved here 52 years ago. Her husband, Frank Yamaguchi preceded her in death. Mrs. Yamaguchi was born in Japan July 23, 1888. She came to the United States 62 years ago. She was united in marriage to Frank Yamaguchi in Seattle, Wash. Shortly afterwards the couple moved to Kearns in Archuleta county. In 1926 they moved to Pagosa Springs and this has been her home ever since that time. Survivors include four sons; George, Ralph, and Ernest of Pagosa Springs, and Fred of Elgin, Ill; and one daughter, Lucy Cotton, of Pagosa Springs there are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Yamaguchi passed away at her home in Pagosa Springs after a lengthy illness. Funeral Services were Conducted on Wednesday of this week from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Hudson officiating. Burial was in the Hilltop Cemetery. Pall Bearers were Ralph Girardin, Fran Maestas, George Alley Jr., Ted Lattin and George Yanase.
